Children & Young People

Children are cherished at St John’s, and there are special activities for them during the 9.30am service on Sunday mornings. Through our work with children, young people and families we aim to equip and encourage them in their own spiritual journey and for all to be given the opportunity to experience the love God has for each one of us.

Kim Leach is our Children & Families Leader; this is a joint appointment with St John’s Church of England Primary School, so she spends part of her time at the School.

LIVE WIRES CRECHE: (ages 0-3) This is in the Baptistry (near the main entrance) Toys and books are provided for little ones. At least one parent must stay.

EXPLORERS: On the first three Sundays of the month, children will gather in the Jubilee Hall to share a time of worship and learning together before going into age appropriate groups. On the fourth Sunday children will remain in church with their parents for a short all age slot before going into their groups:

PATHFINDERS: (ages 4-7) meet in the Pauling Room (next to the Jubilee Hall).

TRAILBLAZERS: (ages 8-11) meet in the Jubilee Hall.

Children will return to the church to participate in Holy Communion with their parents or share what they’ve been doing.

STREETWISE  YOUTH: (ages 11 and upwards). This age group remains in the church service and are encouraged to serve in an area of interest e.g. on the sound desk, as welcomers etc. They meet together on Sunday evenings, 6.00 – 7.30pm, in the Lodge (in the Church grounds next to the Jubilee Hall).

As a church, we believe that children and young people are important in the eyes of God, and so we strive to make this statement a reality for each of the children and young people we care for.
